Day 31

Day 31!
I made it through a whole month with no relapses.
That must be a first for me. I am hopeless at following things through to the end!
Not that this is the end, of course, but at least I'm still going.
I had a very busy day scrapping today,
so my photo of the day is a photo of a work in progress-image transfers!

Day 30

On my way to work I took this snap from the car window.
I like the contrasting architectural styles-the Scottish parliament building on the left,
and an old traditional building on the right.
I have to say I really don't like the Parliament building.
It is not aging well either!

Ceilidh

Emily and Jack went to the school ceildh tonight.
Jack was off with friends before I got home from work, so no photos of him in his kilt!
but lots of Emily in her first 'dress up'.
She was beside herself with excitement.
I curled her hair at her request.
She hated it!
I was the enemy!
Then the curl dropped-as I told her it would- and she relaxed a bit.
She was happy by the time her friends came around.
This was my favourite of the photos:

Some more:

and more still..

Day 26

Australia Day!
I really should have made some lamingtons, or had a barbie!
I didn't even see an Australian flag anywhere,
so instead-
the bookshelves in our hallway!

Day 25

Address To A Haggis
Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o' the puddin-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy o' a grace
As lang's my arm.

The groaning trencher there ye fill,
Your hurdies like a distant hill,
Your pin wad help to mend a mill
In time o' need,
While thro' your pores the dews distil
Like amber bead.

His knife see rustic Labour dight,
An' cut you up wi' ready sleight,
Trenching your gushing entrails bright,
Like ony ditch;
And then, O what a glorious sight,
Warm-reekin, rich!

Then, horn for horn, they stretch an' strive:
Deil tak the hindmost! on they drive,
Till a' their weel-swall'd kytes belyve,
Are bent lyke drums;
Then auld Guidman, maist like to rive,
"Bethankit!" 'hums.

Is there that owre his French ragout
Or olio that wad staw a sow,
Or fricassee wad mak her spew
Wi' perfect sconner,
Looks down wi' sneering, scornfu' view
On sic a dinner?

Poor devil! see him ower his trash,
As feckless as a wither'd rash,
His spindle shank, a guid whip-lash,
His nieve a nit;
Thro' bloody flood or field to dash,
O how unfit!

But mark the Rustic, haggis fed,
The trembling earth resounds his tread.
Clap in his walie nieve a blade,
He'll mak it whissle;
An' legs an' arms, an' heads will sned,
Like taps o' thrissle.

Ye Pow'rs wha mak mankind your care,
And dish them out their bill o' fare,
Auld Scotland wants nae skinking ware
That jaups in luggies;
But, if ye wish her gratefu' prayer,
Gie her a haggis!

Our tea tonight, because it's Burns Night. I'm NOT a fan of real haggis at all,
but I do eat the vegetarian version (the bottom of the two in this picture.)

Day 24

Guess where we went today!

Emily wants curly hair for the ceilidh this week and so we had to buy some hot rollers,
We had to have a tiral run when we got home.

Here is my photo of the day:

365 day 23

Finally today we saw a bit of sun.
Very often in Edinburgh the sky is a great big flat grey nothingness,
but today, with a bit of sun, a touch of blue sky and a streak of clouds,
we had this very pretty sky at 8:30 this morning;
and I was able to take this photo from the Hermitage allotments looking south.

365 DAY 19

Today's photo-another view up my street.
This was the snow that was left when I got home at 4:30 this afternoon.
Can you see the hill at the top behind the houses-it is plastered.
So pretty. I love snow.

A closer view:

365 Day 18

Just one photo today-and it's not a good one-out of focus. Too tires and head achy to do anymore. Anyway, it's the embroidery detail on Emily's new ceilidh dress.:

365 Day17

I went to the Edinburgh crop today in it's new home.
It's a church hall, and this meant being able to go into the empty church
and taking these photos.
I chose the photo of the day just because I like the way the light falls on the wall next to the window.

Here are some other photos of the windows:

And lastly, there is a cemetry next to the church where I took this little cherub!

365 Day 16

Another day of taking photos as I was stationary at traffic lights. The photo of the day is a zoom view, so the Scottish Poetry Library building on the left is not well focused. It is not the best photo-but I think the juxtaposition of the modern and tradional architecture, interesting.

Further down the road, at the next set of lights, I just aimed the camera up blindly and got these three views of the Poetry Library.

Then at another set of lights I took these 3 photos of the same house. these dormer windows in the roof are typically Scottish traditional style.
